Did you know
that sheep milk is not only delicious but also incredibly
nutritious?
Sheep milk is much higher in total solids than either cow or
goat milk and contains up to twice as many minerals like calcium,
phosphorus, iron and zinc. It also contains more of the percentage
of A, E, C and B complex vitamins than cow's milk.
Dairy intolerant? An intolerance to
dairy usually only indicates that you are intolerant to cow's milk.
Sheep milk is a great alternative!
Lactose intolerant? Much of the
lactose in sheep milk goes out with the whey when making cheese.
There is also evidence that the lactose in sheep milk is more
readily tolerated and easier to digest than other milk.
Asthma, eczema, and skin problems?
Studies recommend replacing cow milk with sheep milk to aid the
treatment of these and other related problems due to the high
levels of iron and zinc.
Sheep Milk free of A1 protein!
Research shows that milk from sheep and goats is free from the A1
protein found in milk from most cows. The A1 beta-casein protein
has been linked to heart disease, diabetes type 1 and various
mental illnesses.
Calcium and Zinc. The combination of
the calcium, lactose and Vitamin D (almost twice as much as in
cow's milk) is vital in the prevention and fight against
Osteoporosis. In New Zealand alone, more than half the women and
nearly one third of all men over 60 are affected by Osteoporosis.
Calcium intake is especially important for children as bone density
is laid down in adolescence. Zinc is important for the maintenance
of healthy skin. The calcium:phosphorus ratio is nearly perfect,
one unable to digest without the other!
Vitamins. Vitamins A, D, and E and
mainly B are essential to good health and are often recommended to
be taken as supplements. Vitamin A promotes growth, the immune
system, reproduction and vision. Vitamin D promotes healthy bones
and muscles. Medical researchers believe that vitamin E helps to
delay and prevent coronary heart disease and prevent prostate and
breast cancer. Vitamin B supports and increases the rate of
metabolism and promotes healthy skin and muscle tone. Vitamin B
also reduces the risk of pancreatic cancer and helps combat the
symptoms of stress, depression and cardiovascular disease. Vitamin
B12 deficiency has been linked to declining memory and dementia and
studys suggest consuming more B12 might help protect the brain.
Fats. Sheep milk is higher in fat than
cow's milk, yet 45% of the fatty acids are either Mono or
Polyunsaturated fats, thus the healthy fats! Within the fats are
three fat soluble vitamins, without which we could not survive.
These are A, D and E; our essential vitamins! Sheep milk also
contains a higher proportion of medium/short chain saturated fatty
acids which is believed to lead to a higher lactose absorption,
beneficial to the mildly lactose intolerant.
Protein. Lamb is often the most
recommended meat for people with intolerance to meat. Sheep cheese,
made of the main protein, casein, is acceptable to almost all who
cannot tolerate cow or goat milk products.
