This means that we own our farms, milk our own sheep, transport the milk to the factory, process the milk into cheese, ice cream and sheep's milk powder, and market the products accordingly. This vertically integrated system ensures that the highest quality is met through quality control at each level of the supply chain.

Blue River farms are all based around Southland, well-known for its lush, green farmland and spacious land mass. Statistics show that there is 0.34km² for every 1 Southlander!

Our sheep are a composite of East Friesian. East Friesians are the best milking breed, and we have cross bred them with some tougher breeds so they can handle life down here in the South!

Maxi Robertson, our head cheese maker, has over 35 years experience in the business and is the brain and special touch behind our award winning cheeses. Maxi believes that: “cheese is a living, breathing being that must be nurtured and cared for on a daily basis”, and we agree!

We believe that getting back to nature and its finest is what really counts; and where better to do that than right here in Southland, New Zealand!
